Tri Bike vs Road Bike

It’s the question a beginner triathlete will ask themselves sooner or later. Which is better, a triathlon specific bike or a road bike? Which will make me faster? What’s the difference? How much do they cost?

In the video I asked my good friend and personal bike mechanic, Brian Neale to show me a few of the differences between my tri bike and his road bike.

Triathlon training in a month?

I’ve been invited by a friend to do a sprint triathlon. The race is in one month and I’m scared I will be unprepared if I decide to enter. The only training I’ve done so far is soccer and running 15-20 miles a week, with a little weight training thrown in 3-4 days a week. Should I sign up for the race? Is it possible to be prepared for a sprint triathlon in one month? Its a 250m swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile run.

You have 30 days to prep for a triathlon. In your case you have 30 days to learn how to comfortably swim 250M and bike 12 miles. The run portion should take care of itself.

Anyone can cover 12 miles on a bike.

Now to brass tacks — Practice swimming…and try to cover 250M comfortably. Swimming is the least time crunched of the 3 events. If you swim the distance in 4 minutes or 7 minutes it doesn’t matter much — particularly if you spend 3 minutes in T1 looking for your socks. The bike and the run are where you make up your time. But to be safe you must learn how to swim with ease and efficiency.

Start here with the swim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJpFVvho0o4
For more technical concepts go here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97b6XIntfcc&feature=fvw (there are 4 other parts…)

Essentially your race is A) Be able to swim for 7 minutes B) Ride for at least 1 hour C) Run for at least 30 minutes. If you can do these things consecutively with a 4-5 minute rest in between then you can do a sprint tri.

Again, I would focus on swim SKILLS (not endurance or force — skills like balance, sighting and breathing). Go on your normal run schedule — but try it after riding a bike for an hour beforehand twice a week.

Anything is possible if you ignore the naysayers.

If I am training for a triathlon, working out 6 days a week, how many calories?

should I consume if I work out 6x / week at 40min. to over an hour each session, including some light weight training? Also, is it bad to starve myself while I am on this training regimen? I want to lost 10lbs as well, but I figure if I’m working out this much and not increasing my caloric intake, that will happen anyhow? Before this, I worked out sporadically, sometimes 3 times a week, sometimes every two weeks. Thanks.

If you don’t eat enough, your body will think you’re starving, and any food you do eat will be mostly converted to fat while your muscles are burnt away.

If you eat 500-1000cals less per day than you need to stay alive AND do all that work, you’ll lose 1-2lbs a week and meet your goal easily.

As for figuring out how many calories you’re burning – I use this website to help me out with that sort of thing:

Why are we drawn to sports?

It is because we appreciate and take pleasure in witnessing the human spirit in motion.

Athletes competing and achieving despite difficulties inspires us all.

It is a reality TV show in its best. Sometimes, we can’t help asking what sort of “all in one sports nutrition” they are taking.

The secret of all in one sports nutrition lies in its ideal balance nutrients, compacted in one package.

This will save you money since you wouldn’t be buying several packs of the sports nutrients with overlapping nutrients contents.

All in one sports nutrition is also scientifically designed to include all the necessary nutrients needed by any athlete, and specially includes you.

Some sports nutrition claims that having all nutrients in one package is not advisable because there is the tendency that the manufacturer will limit other vital nutrient.

All in one sports nutrition contains ingredients designed to improve athletic performance. It is also designed to hasten the recovery of muscle fatigue every after exercise.
