Triathlon Bike vs Road Bike

It’s the question a beginner triathlete will ask themselves sooner or later. Which is better, a triathlon specific bike or a road bike? Which will make me faster? What’s the difference? How much do they cost?

In the video I asked my good friend and personal bike mechanic, Brian Neale to show me a few of the differences between my tri bike and his road bike.

swimming triathlon help?

I’m almost 18 and I’m going to do a sprint triathlon june 20th. its a 600 yard swim, a 15 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run. so far the running and the biking is not too difficult and I feel confident that I will be able to do them. but right now swimming is very difficult. I have no prior swimming history and have no idea about technique. I have a program in place and I’m learning how to swim pretty much. right now I can only swim like 50 yards or so without stopping. my question is do you think I can improve enough to make the 600 yards by june?

It is definitely possible for you to improve your swimming by June. Try to spend at least three days a week training on your swimming. Concentrate on improving your form, technique, rythm, and endurance. You should increase your nonstop distance in each training session. Try to get to 600 yards non-stop by May. Then you should do combined workouts in which you do at least two and preferably all three events consecutively. Try not to wait until race day to combine them all for the first time. Just because you can swim 600 yards on Monday, bike 15 miles on Tueday, and run 3.1 miles on Wednesday does not necessarily mean you can do all three in a row on Saturday.

I am training for a triathlon & looking for a road bike I like Trek and Specialized?

I have a price range around 1200 dollars and looking for a good road bike? Please help me!

There are a lot of road bikes out there…

Check out FELT. They make good entry level Tri-bikes like the S-22 for around that price.

I would worry more about the component sets. If you’re looking at shimano components, make sure the bike has ultegra and dura ace components.

Also you might look on craigslist for a used tri-specific bike. Trek and Specialized are good brands — almost all of them are. But for $1200 you could get a great bike from previous years like Jamis or Cervelo…

My suggestion, train on a $25 beater you get from goodwill (steel chromoly frame). Take your time on the bike purchase. Talk to a fellow cyclist or triathlete — NOT a sales person. Test ride as many bikes as you can. And when you finally settle on one, make sure a bike fit is included free of charge.

Ironman triathlon training Jason Lester & Matty 3 14 10

Jason Lester and Matty Cunningham training in Kaila-Kona for the LavaMan triathlon. We started each training day with a swim, followed by a bike and run. Part of the course that were training on here today is the Honu 70.3 and the Ironman World Championships.
Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons are a good way to start out as a beginner. I highly advise doing a half marathon as part of your training for a full. Proper triathlon gear is important. Your bike is your machine and you are the engine. As you can see in this video, Im wearing an all white one piece suit, made by TriAddicts. This helps reflect the sun in extreme heat so that your body stays cool. Other popular brands include Zoot and Speedo.
If I can be of any assistance to you during your training, please feel free to contact me through YouTube. Get ready, train hard, and I look forward to seeing you out on the road!

A Swiss Cultural Experience

In Switzerland the age for prostitution is set at a world low of 16. (yes I know that child prostitution goes on in other countries, but it’s not legalized) I was shocked when I found this out. A friend and I went around town asking some locals about what they thought. Coming from a culture (Canada) that cracks down so heavily on prostitution, (yes I know that it’s legalized in Canada, but almost every aspect associated with prostitution is illegal), it was just interesting to see that it’s ok in different cultures.

I’m not trying to be political, I did this for a competition (hence why it’s so short). I’m a huge believer in cultural relativism, and just wanted to show one aspect of Switzerland. Sure there are a lot of more nice things about Switzerland.
