Triathlon specific bikes are not affordable. Get the best road bike you can afford. Go to your local bike shops and ask if they have any of last year’s models left over. They will usually discount these bikes significantly to move them out of the shop. Get a bike that fits you well — that’s why you should buy from a local shop. A bike that fits you well is a pleasure. One that doesn’t is torture. Once you have the bike, get a clip-on set of aero bars.
Good luck.

Beginner Triathlete Training
Hi guys! A group of us are training for a triathlon at the end of september, we know we should of started earlier but we are going to make a go of it anyway!
I was wondering what are good foods to eat etc. And how to start building up to a
8km run
A 22k bike ride and
the a swim equal to 16 lengths of the pool
Well i know its a bit late to be starting but were are a fit enough bunch, well we think so at least! Any advice would be helpful!
Thanks
Foods are all about what is going to refuel you I recommend foods high in protein (low in fat), fruits, veggies, and suppliments (that recharge your electolites, and your protein), peanut butter, etc…
before the race do not eat big (practice on what works best for you personally I wat half a bagel with peanut butter and drink some orange juice, on the bike I have a motor tab and I always have a cliff bar with me. To figure out what works best for you when training try different stuff before and see what settles well. As for pre race meal I recommend carbs.
For you run start out with a casual 1.5 mile run and work up every 3 days. You will then be able to fine tune the speed and distance.
If you live in the La county area I recommend TriZone they can help you with gear, wetsuit rentals, and nutrition.
the bike start out with small rides (since you are just starting try an easy 15 mile and then work to get faster and cut your time) I say 15 miles beacause you always want to train for a little more than what you do in the race.
As for your swim if you are not a swimmer try joining a masters program that provides swim stroke clinics. If you are a swimmer masters is a good idea too but you can make a workout yourself. Try to average the workout to about 1000 yards (again you want to do more than you are doing). Also make sure you practice open water swims with the wetsuit you are going to use (they are restictive in breathing and you should get used to it.)
It is never too late to start training I only trained for a month before my first one and I got 2nd in my division. It is fun and you will love it!
