I started cycling for about 4 months ago and I sorta want to get more serious, either being a better triathlete, or possibly focusing just on cycling. I’m about 16 and I want to know what are good training sessions to do for cycling? I can average about 38km/h for about 30-35km on flat road, and I was wondering what other guys average about my age? Should I be doing hills and reps, and how many times a week?
Thanks for answering ![]()
there’s more of a career in road cycling than triathlon, concentrating on one sport is my advise to you.your doing well at the moment as far as your average speed goes,3 to 5 times a week doing around 150 miles per week until that becomes easier and then increase your miles or you could cycle in one direction for 1 hour, then turn round and cycle back, then increase this as you get stronger, time each run and see how many miles you’ve done and then try to beat this the next time, doing hills sounds like no fun at all,but it’s actually really good because you know when you get to top that you’ve got a high speed descent coming where you can take a breather,it’s also very good for building up your calve muscles,i’m not as young as you but this is how i got started,gl and ride safe
P.S.always take food and some form of drink with you,"hitting the wall" is no fun at all and can be dangerous, shakes and dehydration blindness could be the outcome if you don’t!
