Tips/advice for breaking up with a boyfriend that loves me tomorrow? We’re both freshman in college?

He’s loyal, honest, caring, etc. I met him a couple months ago in my dorm elevator. I’m his first girlfriend and he reallllyyy likes me. However here are the problems:

1.) We don’t share similar beliefs/values. I feel very strongly about certain things like flaws in conventional psychiatry, and flaws in most of America’s food. I love talking about the universe and why we’re here. I’m a very philosophical, always asking questions, researching, etc type of person. My boyfriend doesn’t really have an interest in talking to me about any of these things. Sometimes i’ll say something and he’ll be like " I get ya girl" and that’s all or "Omg im not talking about this. I need to take you to church more often."

2.) I am VERY involved in school, i made sure of it as soon as i got to college. Im in running club, triathlon club, food nutrition and dietetics club, and students for sensible drug policy. I also just got a job as a lifeguard. My bf is not involved at all. whenever we get alone time he always comments on how he "never gets to see me" because im always so busy. I tell him he should get involved, he says "no, then I would actually never get to see you." I said " seriously, you should get involved. dont not get involved because of me" But he was adamant that his not being involved lets him be able to see me atleast a little bit. I think that’s horrible. I want to get even more involved with each of my clubs, while working, while still keeping my grades up, and I just don’t think I have time for being with a guy that A.) is not interested in anything that i am interested in and B.) won’t even pursue his own interests because he wants to spend time with me.

3.) Tonight he told me he gets butterflies everytime he sees me, that every time he sees me its like hes seeing me for the first time. That caught me off guard. Yes, I do like seeing him, but I never get butterflies anymore (its only been a couple of months). I would much rather spend time with the friends i have made in my clubs, having a goofy time and talking about things we’re all interested in.

So, tomorrow we are both going home for a week for thanksgiving break. He lives about an hour away from me, and we werent going to see eachother anyway. Should I just go up to his room tomorrow ( his roommate is gone already) andn kindly break it off with him? That way we can both go home and not have to see eachother/have time to get over it for a week. Tips/advice?

I would. I would tell him he’s a nice guy but he’s not the guy for you. Be polite but firm, tell him that your relationship is not working for you and you know that it’s best to end it. Tell him that you wanted to tell him now so you both can have the time away to began getting over the break-up.

i have also always been curious about girls. I want to sort of experiment with my sexuality. should i tell him that too?

Tell him is better to be friends and tell him the true how you feel… I think that’s a bad idea if you break up with him tomorrow he just might be at your door trying to get back at you
