well find out your strengths. Are you a good runner, or biker or swimmer? After you find your strengths work on your weaknesses more. For me I was an awful swimmer so I had to swim four times a week to get ready. Since I was an OK runner I cut down on running to improve on swimming. Try for working out five days a week even try to get in two workouts in a day. Make sure if the swim is outdoors you get some supervised outdoor swims in. Just because you can swim a mile indoors does not make it the same as swimming a mile in a lake. Here's some good websites to try: http://www.trinewbies.com
http://www.ontri.com

Good luck

Comment on Beginner Junior Triathlete help? by James

A super sprint or sprint triathlon is probably the best way to enter the sport-something I can say from experience. I hope the following tips help you:

*A quick search on google came up with three tri clubs in surrey-Phoenix tri, Farnham tri club and Viceroys. As a junior triathlete, I can tell you from experience that a tri club is very beneficial. They often have training advice on the website, and you can get more from talking to members. They often do shorter races for juniors. My tri club (in Guernsey) even ran a training camp for juniors. I would check out the web and see where your nearest club is, and contact them.
*If you are serious about training, I would buy one of the training manuals around. I got the Triathlete's Training Bible a few years ago, which helps you plan your training for every day of every year, based on your strengths, weaknesses and goals. It also has a section of specific junior needs, which I found really beneficial when I began triathlon. If not, a more expensive but worthwhile option is to look for a coach-there is a list at britishtriathlon.org, some of which are specific junior coaches.
*The GB team choose people to represent the country at the age group championships for Europe and the World at three races. These are the Grendon Triathlon, Rother Valley and the Big Cow triathlon. However, you must be around 17 to enter this. There are a number of events for people your age-I would recommend the Hyde Park triathlon, which is the age group branch of the ITU World Championship Series event. There is an U17 age group for a sprint distance triathlon (which I am entering for 2011), and a aquathlon event-involving swimming and running, for the same age group. I would also recommend entering a race such as the Windsor of Blenheim triathlons (Blenheim is the only one of these two to run a super sprint), or the London triathlon, as they have seperate junior races.

Hope this helps-best of luck with your training!
References :
Triathlete

You are going to ...
You are going to need to learn how to train your body for power endurance and flexibility, train your mind to learn, train your power of will. Much like your body willpower is built slowly over time. The sooner you start the better. The stronger your body is the less pain you will have to endure mentally. Good luck to you.

P.S. SFAS stands for special forces assessment and selection not qualification as I erroneously wrote earlier.

Hi Jeff, thanks for ...
Hi Jeff, thanks for your videos, Iron Barcelona was an amazing experience, 12.11 not bad being the first one, very tired in T2 and that's probably the reason why marathon didn't unfold at the pace I was expecting, next one will be even better. ciao.

Actually I did ...
Actually I did until I cut the arms off. However I have a piece of crap wetsuit that was meant for body surfing so I wasn't worried about recking the suit. It sounds like your problem has more to do with sizing since you should not have breathing problems! I would say try renting a couple of different sized suits to see if the problem goes away.

Congrats, that is a ...
Congrats, that is a great time! Being tired in the marathon is pretty common so don't worry about it too much. You probably learned a tonne of information during training and the race that you can now take into your next Ironman. Best of luck in the future.

This is great ...
This is great advice. To go further; if you haven't done so you should set some intermediate goals like half marathon and marathon races. I did two marathons, four half marathons, 2 triathlons and many 10k runs before signing up. I also rode across Asia on my bike but that is another story. The best thing is your body will heal if you do consistent stretching. I would also highly recommend yoga.
